Origin of Corpus Christi Celebration - Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ - June 23rd, 2019

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, which is Latin for “the Body of Christ.”  We might wonder, where did this celebration come from, and why do we have it?  I’ll tell you... in my homily!

Trinity and Father's Day - Trinity Sunday - June 16th, 2019

Happy Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity!  While we celebrate the Trinity, we also are celebrating Father’s Day.  This is a beautiful overlap of celebrations because we can relate fathers to the Trinity and see how fathers can imitate the Trinity.  Listen to my homily to find out more.

Trinity

Some highlights from the homily regarding Fatherhood:

According to a study in Switzerland in 1994:
1) If mom goes to church regularly on Sunday while dad doesn't when the children are growing up, then when the children become adults:  2% will go regularly, 37% will go irregularly (or sometimes), and about 60% will not go at all.
2) If dad goes to church regularly on Sunday while mom doesn't when the children are growing up, then when the children become adults:  44% will go regularly, about 30% will go irregularly ( or sometimes), and about 25% will not go at all.

Children seem to learn more about the importance of the faith when they see dad taking the faith seriously.

Dad's are challenged to be the spiritual leaders in their families; to be a good example regarding going to, paying attention during, and discussing afterward, the Mass; and to teach the faith to their children (only needing to be one step a head of them).

We also celebrated 40 Hours of Adoration this weekend in honor of our Solemnity, the Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord.  We started with Mass on Friday night at 7 pm and had adoration until 2 pm on Sunday when we have Benediction followed by an ice social.
