The Love of Christ Our King - Solemnity of Christ the King - November 24th, 2019

Jesus loved us so much that He came to earth and suffered and died for us.  He told us in John’s Gospel, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (15:13)  His life was truly a gift of Himself that He laid down for our salvation and as an expression of His love for us.  He said, “No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own. I have power to lay it down, and power to take it up again.” (John 10:18)  Our king is a king who is willing to die to save us out of His love for us!  Who wouldn’t want a king like that?  Listen to my homily to hear more about His love for you!

Overcoming Fear - 33rd Sunday in OT - November 17th, 2019

We all have experienced fear in our lives, fear of embarrassment, fear of persecution, fear of death, etc.  I'd like to share with you a time I was afraid.  I remember 10 or so years ago while I was living and working as nuclear engineer in Illinois, I thought about putting a pro-life bumper sticker on my car.  However, I was afraid that when someone else sees it, that person might get angry with me.  My imagination started to run with this idea and I started to think that if I did this, then I would be yelled at for being pro-life or, even have my car damaged... Listen to my homily to hear how this story ends and how we can better overcome our fears.

Purgatory and Praying for the Dead - 31st Sunday of OT - November 3rd, 2019

Can you believe it’s November already?  When we think about this month it wouldn’t be surprising if we think about the season of Fall, and the Thanksgiving holiday.  However, November for Catholics is a month dedicated to remembering the dead.  We honor our deceased and pray for them.  That might sound weird to some of us.  Why would we pray for the dead?  Well, because we love them and want them to enter Heaven.  Listen to my homily to learn more about purgatory and praying for the dead!

All Saints and the Beatitudes - All Saints Day - November 1st, 2019

Often when we say “saints” we think of canonized Saints.  These saints are people who the Church has recognized as being in heaven.  However, everyone in heaven is a saint, though many are not identified by the Church as being there.  That’s one of the reasons why we have our Solemnity of all Saints today.  We are celebrating everyone in heaven, those that are officially recognized by the Church and those who are not.

We are all called to one day be with them in heaven.  God wants us all to be in Heaven and He offers us this free gift.  We need to accept it by aiming our lives for heaven.  Jesus Christ gave us the beatitudes in our Gospel today to help guide us to Heaven.  Listen to my homily to learn more about it.
