One Body With Many Parts, What Part Are You - 3rd Sunday of Ordinary Time - January 27th, 2019

As I entered the room I boasted to God how great I was and how I could safely navigate the dark room.  Immediately, I smashed the toes of my right foot on a short black cart... Listen to my homily to find out what happened next.

Gifts and Talents
The second reading (1 COR 12:4-11) last Sunday, talked about spiritual gifts and how the Holy Spirit gives different gifts as He wishes.  This Sunday, our second reading (1 COR 12:12-30) talks about all of us being part of the Mystical Body of Christ, with each part working for the good of the whole.
We should all pray about our gifts, talents, abilities, and how we use our time, and consider in what ways we can use these things to help the Mystical Body of Christ.  What things can you do well?  What kind of service excites you?  When and how much time can you offer in service?  What spiritual gifts do you have that God might be calling you to share?
Our natural gifts might be easier to identify than our spiritual gifts.  However, our parish is having a Spiritual Gifts Inventory workshop, where you can come and discover your spiritual gifts.  There will be two sessions, one on March 4th and another on March 11th.  Both sessions start at 7 pm in the Multipurpose Room.  Come to this event and discover your spiritual gifts.
We don’t have to wait for those sessions to put our gifts, talents, and time to good use, though.  We can put to use the ones we already know by finding a parish group or organization that fits well with them.  We have a unique opportunity to discover what parish groups and organizations we can contribute to with our gifts and talents by participating in Winter Fest this weekend:  Saturday, January 26th from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm and Sunday, January 27th from 9 am to 2 pm.  There will also be chili, coffee, hot dogs, and cookie decorating at Winter Fest.
Come and learn more about the many ministries, groups, and organizations we have here at Ascension and how you can contribute to the good of Mystical Body of Christ, here at Ascension Parish.
